We have a couple of gripes with AIM Mail's presentation. The IMAP implementation has some restrictions (you can't unsend messages or manually add messages to your inbox, for example), but you can use it to receive new messages with IMAP-compatible clients such as Outlook, Eudora, and Thunderbird. Interestingly, AIM Mail recently added outgoing IMAP support, though there's still no POP3 access yet. It highlights all the misspelled words at once, and lets you left-click on each one for suggestions while keeping the same window open.
The AIM Mail spell-checker apes Google Gmail's quick-and-dirty approach. We like the clear configuration options, such as Control Who I Get Mail From and Control What Is in the Mail I Get, and think the filter is intelligently designed overall. You can also import addresses from CSV or tab-delimited files.ĪIM Mail also sports McAfee-licensed virus scanning and AOL's three-level spam-filtering system with block and exclusion lists. You can store multiple phone numbers, separate work and home addresses, and lots of other info, which is similar to what the other three services offer, though it's a smoother process in AIM and Hotmail. The AIM Mail address book makes it simple to add contact information, especially since AIM automatically enters people you e-mail from within AIM Mail. You also get a healthy 16MB limit on attachments.

This worked without a hitch all we had to do was bring up the message from our Sent folder and click the Unsend button.ĪIM Mail nearly ties Gmail with its 2GB of free storage space, besting Yahoo! Mail's 1GB and trouncing Hotmail's 250MB limit. You can "unsend" messages that haven't been read yet by the recipient, which could be useful in a variety of less-than-savory situations (such as that e-mail you sent your ex after having a few too many). We found these easy to use, though the AIM presence indicator requires Microsoft Internet Explorer to function, and one time it refused to light up properly when the other AIM party was online. You can include AIM presence indicators in your signature and set up return receipts with other AIM users. AIM's tight integration with Instant Messenger shows in a number of ways, and is one of its key selling points. Visually, AIM Mail makes a good impression, with colorful graphics and the neat way the trash icons let you delete individual messages with a single click. You'll need AIM client version 5.9 for this to work otherwise, you can sign in separately at. Simply click on the AIM Mail link near the bottom of your Buddy List window, and AIM will automatically sign you in to your new e-mail account.
